We are very proud to have been involved in the repairing of another arch on the bridge, following the unfortunate incident in July 2019 when a passenger ferry became wedged tight under the arch! The Grade II listed structure is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Palace of Westminster.

A Belgian customer brought an Alfa SS 6-cylinder block to our Derbyshire workshop for repair. It was in a bad way, with many cracks, holes, and old weld which needed removing and replacing.

We had an enquiry regarding the repair of two cast iron wheels off an Aveling Living Van which was in the process of being refurbished by its owner. Both wheels had one cracked spoke each which went right through and were close to the outer rim.

An interesting job came into our workshop from Ireland….a Fraser Nash Gough 4-cylinder head which needed some t.l.c as it is 1 of only 29 ever made, so irreplaceable!
The customer explained the head had many cracks and leaks, and that “it has been skimmed many times, so try to avoid taking any more off!”

The owner of a house in Salterlee (mentioned in the TV drama Gentleman Jack) got in touch with us regarding a pair of cast iron lamp posts and lanterns which were mounted on stone pillars at the entrance to their home and were in need of restoration. They had previously been connected to an electricity supply, but as a wedding was due to take place at the house this summer, “the main thing is for them to look ornamental, rather than for light…is this something you could do?”

We received an enquiry for the repair of a 1916 Allan hot bulb horizontal oil engine cylinder which was welded by its previous owner. Sadly, the welds (varying from 6mm to 10mm) were cracking at the edges due to the hardening of the cast iron during welding.

We were contacted by a customer with a 1925 Robey Tandem Roller cylinder block saddle needing repair to “a crack on the one corner of the saddle, incorporating a stud through-hole.” Following delivery to our workshop, a thorough inspection found another crack from a low pressure cylinder stud hole toward the cylinder bore, which was deemed worthy of repair.

We were contacted by a building contractor to undertake some restorations to a Grade II listed lodge’s windows.
The lodge began life in 1852 as an extensive range of 2-storey alms houses and was known as the “Asylum for Decayed and Decrepit Freemasons”. It was built under the auspices of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, and provided 49 rooms for distressed freemasons, and a central hall for meetings and entertainments.

dation, so the range would not have fire set in it following refurbishments, but it was important to retain the originality of the room to match that of the building.

A customer requested our services to extend an architectural feature of a cast iron window railing to the ground floor front sill of his property on Fitzjohn’s Avenue, NW3 - which in its heyday would have had some extensive ironwork. He had acquired a railing of three metres long, but needed it to be closer to four!

We were contacted by a customer who had “a pump in our works for which the top bearing has failed allowing the impellor to rub against the casing. The blades of the impellor require rebuilding and profiling to suit the casing. We estimate the tips require building up by approximately 20mm”.

Whilst a Maltese marine company was carrying out a service to a classic luxury yacht, it was discovered that the windlass components were in need of repairs – the two gypsy chain drums had worn badly and were in need of rebuilding to accept the anchor chain, and a side bearing bracket had cracked where historical welding repairs had been previously undertaken. Also, one of its four anchor chain guides was so badly worn it needed replacing.

To the untrained eye it looked like a pile of scrap, but we “jig-sawed” the pieces back into some sort of orderly fashion, and, although there were pieces broken off various components, we were able to remanufacture and weld into place using our approved fusion welding procedure for cast iron.

This Grade 1 listed building which was built in 1825 to a Tudor Gothic design, was to undergo a “retrofit” allowing the student accommodation to become energy efficient, with the façade and windows restored to their former glory.

Westminster Bridge is a Grade II listed structure in the heart of London, over the River Thames. It was opened in 1862 and is painted green, the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons!
The bridge had recently been damaged by a sightseeing cruiser and sustained damage to the façade and supporting structure.

A lorry had reversed into a Cast Iron Lamp Post that was due to be in the background of a scene of the latest James Bond Movie ‘Skyfall’. Daniel Craig was set to arrive to film a chase scene around Trinity Square, with the Lamp Post clearly visible in this important scene.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh came to witness the newly refurbished Glove Factory in Yeovil this year as part of the Diamond Jubilee Tour. This former factory is now part of a Zero Carbon Living Development and is used as commercial and office space.

Two Industrie Marine Cylinder Heads were received for repairs at our works. After close inspection, MPI testing revealed that the heads had suffered from ‘pitting’ and excessive fretting on the high pressure sealing ring and extensive cracks from the Injector to the Valve Seat pocket.

A mono block for a De Deon 1903 veteran car was received at our works for inspection to see if we could repair?
As you can see from the photographs this block was basically scrap(!!) - but due to the fact that this is an irreplaceable component we put our engineers to the test and began repairing this item using our approved Fusion Welding Procedure for cast iron material.

Slinden Services Ltd were approached to repair an Amilcar Cylinder Block recently.
Amilcar was a French Manufacturer who produced vehicles between 1921 and 1940.
After inspection of the Block it was found to have previous failed repairs, extensive cracking on the head face area and cracks between all the cylinder bores!

A Daimler 6 Cylinder Block was received at our works for a full inspection/quotation.
As you can see from the photographs this block was basically scrap (the frost damage ran the full length of the block!!) - but with our lock and pin procedures we brought the block back to life.

Several Cast Iron Railings were damaged at an impressive hotel in London. This damage was caused by a lorry reversing into the railings.
After an on site inspection by one of our Engineers, the railings were removed from site and carefully transported back to our factory in Derbyshire to avoid any further damage.

As you can see from the photographs the Con-Rod had let go and smashed through the liner and the block.

A Zetor Engine was in need of some T.L.C when it arrived at our factory.
As you can see from the photographs this block was badly frost damaged - but with our lock and pin procedures we managed to breathe new life into this engine, that otherwise would have been beyond repair.
